Well. It's definitely been a long time since I posted here. In that time, I graduated from college, started working part-time at a PR firm, and have been going in and out of the city for job interviews. Clearly, all of that has messed with my project schedules immensely.
I'm definitely not giving up on anything, though. I'm way too invested in what I've already completed, so even if it's a couple of months late, it will definitely get done. I'm rewriting portions of the script while I wait for all of the art to come in, and working on coding everything in at the same time. Will the game get done this summer? Well, I hope so. If not, it will get done eventually, hopefully when my life settles down a little bit after the immediate post-grad chaos.
Thanks to everyone who has supported me thus far. I'll try not to disappoint you :)
So yeah, I guess this is a monthly update on this site LOL
I basically remembered to update everywhere but here. I'll definitely try to make this a bimonthly thing at the very least.
This morning, the demo of Romancin Dudes hit 1,000 downloads, which is a little crazy. I didn't even know many people downloaded demos, really. Thanks to everyone who downloaded and showed interest in the game!
CG WIP's are coming in and they're looking cute as all hell. I'm really excited to put them into the game and swoon haha
In terms of writing, my plan is to finish the first half of Leo's route by the end of this week, and then finish it up by the end of the next. We're currently on pace to finish by at least the 18th of February (hopefully earlier, but we'll see!)
If you follow me on... anything, you probably know that Roy's route has been finished. It's clocked in at a little over 20k words. Since I'm intending on making everyone's route the same length, this game is going to be a total of 80k+ words... which is something like twice what I originally intended. Welp.
Judging by how the writing for Roy's route went, I'm excited for the others. He morphed into a bit of a different character than I was imagining, but in a good way. I'm looking forward to nothing in this game turning out what I wanted to lol
While procrastinating on writing, I've also come up with a production schedule for future projects if anyone's interested. This probably won't go as planned (because nothing in life seems to) but here's the general outline:
1. Romancin Dudes (Otome, Comedy) - Release Date: February 2017
2. NaNoReNo (Otome Parody) - Release Date: March 31, 2017
3. Limbo (Otome(?), Fantasy, Drama) - Release Date: Fall 2017
4. Post (Otome, Steampunk/Fantasy, Adventure) - Release Date: XX, 2019
I might do a few little projects while working on Post, but that's honestly my dream project (more on that when I officially start it) so I'll probably be focused on that pretty hard. It'll also be my first commercial project, so there's that exciting venture.
In any case, I'll worry about that when I'm there. For now, Leo is calling.
Exactly one week has passed since the release of the demo of Romancin Dudes. I've gotten so many wonderful comments about it, had two people make videos about it on YouTube, and all in all I couldn't have asked for more.
Do you see that number?? I can't even believe it. I would've been happy if like 100 people played my random demo. I'm still very excited about this.
In terms of actual progress, I've been writing whenever I've had time, and it's totally paying off. I'm coming near the end of Roy's route, and I think it's pretty good so far! Definitely in need of some editing, but especially considering that it's about 100% longer than I'd originally planned, I'm surprised I'm even on pace. Next I'm probably going to do Leo's route, because I have a lot of fun things planned for that. Until next week!
After testing and retesting a billion times, enlisting friends to edit for me (because my brain is no longer capable of spellchecking my script) I've finally uploaded the demo for people to play.
I'm very excited to see what people have to say about it, whether it's good or bad. I feel like I've just been incubating this idea alone for so long, and this is the first time I'll get to know whether someone other than myself even thinks this is entertaining. I'm not an experienced writer when it comes to humor, so my main concern is that people won't find it funny... (especially because it's labelled a comedy game lol)
In terms of writing progress, I feel like I've taken a few steps forward and like a marathon backward. Maybe this is just me, but I want to make the romantic development in the routes somewhat realistic and so I've been struggling to pick a number for how many scenes there should be. I originally had around 15, and was almost done with them for Roy's route. After pondering over it, I tentatively added another five to the outline. Thus I'm further back in writing than I was before... OTL
We'll see how it goes. I've set the game's tentative release date for this Valentines Day. Here's hoping I make it.
This week has been my most productive yet for writing! As of now, common route and six of Roy's scenes have been written. I currently have 15 total scenes planned for Roy, but I might end up adding more as I go. I feel like I'm going to develop attachment issues when I'm done with this route haha
The status of the demo is completely based on how fast our sprite artist works. All of the GUI and writing has been coded into ren'py, but we're just missing Case and MC's sprites. As soon as those are done, I can plop them in and release the demo!
My head's going to explode because I'm so excited for the art to start coming in. Main menu art, sprites, chibis, and CG's have been successfully commissioned. All there's left to do is wait, something I'm notoriously bad at... OTL
But to celebrate the first update post on this site, here's some chibis of the RD boiz!
